Orthodontic assessment

During the dental exam we will assess your child’s bite and the developing dentition.  If orthodontic problems are identified; we may recommend a consultation with an orthodontist.

Space maintainers

If a baby tooth is lost too soon, the teeth beside it may tilt or drift into the empty space. Space maintainers hold open the empty space left by a lost tooth.  They steady the remaining teeth until the permanent teeth take their natural position in the jaw.  Space maintainers are made of metal or plastic and are custom fit to your child’s mouth.  They are small and unobtrusive and most children adapt to them after the first few days.

Habit appliances

Thumb and pacifier sucking habits will generally only become a problem if they go
on for a very long period of time. Most children stop these habits on their own, but
if they are still sucking their thumbs or fingers past the age of three, a mouth
appliance may be recommended by your pediatric dentist.
